Sodium Benzoate

Sodium Benzoate is a widely used preservative in food, beverages, and personal care products. It is the sodium salt of benzoic acid, which occurs naturally in fruits such as cranberries, prunes, plums, and apples. Known for its strong antifungal properties, it also provides some protection against bacteria. When combined with Potassium Sorbate at a pH between 4–6, it is considered safe and effective by both the FDA and Health Canada. While there has been some concern over benzene formation, this only occurs under specific conditions—very low pH in combination with ascorbic acid (Vitamin C)
