Sodium Benzoate
A common preservative found in food, drinks and personal care products. A salt ofbenzoic acid that is found naturally in cranberries, prunes, plumbs, apples and other fruits. Primarily an anti-fungal agent but also has some effectiveness against bacteria. Combined with Potassium Sorbate in products at a pH of 4-6, it is deemed safe by the FDA and Health Canada. There is controversy on trace elements of benzine, but that reaction happens with low pH combined with ascorbic acid (vitamin C).
